The Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) is Florida’s customized common placement test. The PERT's goal is to accurately put students in courses based on their skills and abilities. The Postsecondary Readiness Competencies identified by Florida faculty as necessary for success in entry-level college credit coursework are aligned with the PERT.
The test is presently utilized by all Florida high schools and 28 colleges and universities who are the members of Florida College System. McCann Associates developed the PERT in collaboration with Florida educators. The examination is broken into three sections: mathematics, reading, and writing.
Students in public high schools and Florida College System institutions take the PERT to determine their preparation for college-level courses. The PERT is a computer adaptive test (C.A.T.) that includes 25 operational items that will be used to determine the student's placement score and five (5) field test items that will be used to continuously improve the operational test bank.
